Filmmaker - Akil Williams
Akil Williams is from a small town in Michigan ( Grand Rapids ), where he grew up with the passion and ambition of being an actor. Performing in church and school plays through middle school. In high school there was a focus on sports, and in college it seemed to wither away a bit. Until he came into a group that established themselves as Dream Orphans and began to make independent student films. But burning with a desire to do more acting and for stories with more depth and meaning, he decided to pick up a camera and produce himself. He started with a home video camera and Vegas editor on his computer and created the compelling psychological thriller Introversion to A Day. Also he went abroad to 7 cities in Mexico and took Documentary film making classes, where he created the sexy tale of Princessa. In 2004 Williams graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Psychology and wasted no time moving west towards California . With a lack of finances he settled in Phoenix Arizona , where he took a job teaching Trigonometry, Geometry, and Algebra. Working 12 hr days, he helped both of his schools pass the state math test for the first time in their history. While working these twelve hour days, Williams was inspired by principal and entrepreneur Dahlia Lockhart, to use her Motto, No Excuses as a basis for a movie, after viewing the trailer Introversion to A Day. So he gather a crew using his high school students and began filming in all the little bit of free time he had: lunch hrs, Sundays, break times, etc. And did the editing when he got home at 11 pm at night working sometimes without sleep until he had to work the next day. Using gorilla tactics he finally finished the film after 6 months of let downs and lack of integrity from some cast members, using creativity to make up for all the mishaps. He then made more formal his independent film production company, Alexis Films, and began self distribution and research towards the film festival circuit.
